In audiovisual postproduction, the cooperation between composer, sound designer, editor and director is crucial. In this guest lecture, Rens Machielse examines the possible problems in the interaction of the individual trades. He proposes possibilities for more effective cooperation by designing and supporting the (post) production process of audiovisual media with digital technology.

Rens Machielse is director of HKU Music & Technology in Utrecht, The Netherlands. He is also a lecturer in media composition and programme director of the music design research programme. Rens Machielse can look back on a career of more than thirty years as a media composer and has received several awards for his film music. He taught film music at the Filmakademie Amsterdam and the Filmakademie Baden Württemberg and initiated the Dutch Muziek Instituut Multimediale Muziek (MIMM) and the Dutch Association of Media Composers (BCMM) together with other composers. He is also a member of the editorial board of “The New Soundtrack” magazine.
