Young musicians, composers, game musicians and sound designers up to 35 years of age can now submit their compositions for the Young Talent Award Media Music. The deadline for entries is 1 May 2018, and this year’s task is to set short stories based on paintings by the famous American painter Edward Hopper to music. The prize will be awarded at this year’s MediaSoundHamburg (June 8 to 17, 2018).
Eward Hopper is a cult, he is considered one of the icons of American painting. Renowned US authors such as Stephen King, Michael Connelly, Lee Child, Joyce Carol Oates have been inspired by his pictures. The result are 17 short stories published in the anthology “Sunlight or in Shadow” were summarized. There is no story about the painting Cape Cod Morning so far, but maybe soon a sound track!
For this year’s Young Talent Award Media Music MediaSound Hamburg invites young musicians*in, composers*in, game musicians*in and sound designers*in the age of 35 to write a new (media-) music composition for the renowned Kaiser String Quartet and to set one of the 18 pictures/17 stories to music. In addition to original compositions for string quartet, orchestral scores are also accepted. All material, including composition, sheet music and a brief written explanation of the composition process must be submitted by 1 May 2018.
A three-member jury of Dutch, German and Danish composers Than van Nispen, Stefan Eicke and Nicklas Schmidt will pick up the winners. The first three award-winning compositions will be performed live by the Kaiser Quartet at this year’s MediaSound Hamburg on the evening of the award ceremony. The winner of the first prize will receive an invitation to MediaSoundHamburg including free accommodation and board.
The Young Talent Award Media Music will be presented for the fifth time at MediaSoundHamburg in 2018. Winners of the past years were Alin Oprea (Germany, 2014), Simon Schmidt (Germany, 2015), Hayat Selim (Egypt, 2016) and Maxime Hervé (France, 2017).
