This MasterClass is aimed at sound designers, sound engineers, musicians, composers, directors and producers. Before the course starts the participants inside receive the following homework for which they are to develop a sound design. The results will be discussed on the last day of the MasterClass. We ask all participants to bring their own audio recording equipment!
Dear participants,
this is a story I did almost 4 years ago when I briefly returned (12 months) to make Radio. Between Birdman and The Revenant.
I have this radio storytelling exercise I wanted to start with. Why? Because I believe that without a narrative, without a story to share; our work as sound people is soulless and irrelevant. With all my exercises during my stay at MediaSoundHamburg I will always refer to the need of finding this narrative in everything we do, regardless of the film or the tools we use. So what will be the homework?
Well, After you hear my piece I’ll need each one of you to make a Sound Story. A piece that will combine Production Sound, real events sound, Music and a Narrator that will tell us a story. The lenght they consider holds the story interesting. Mine is not a complete story. I intend to translate and finish parts at the workshop. But you will have a piece that will tell you about Ayotzinapa in Guerrero. Where the killing of 46 students ocurred. And the local “Community Police” armed and made by the citizens caught between the corrupted authority and the narc cartels. I was there to hear it and this was part of a longer series.
