KOMPONISTINNEN Screening and Q&A

Friday, June 17th, 7 pm

MediaSoundHamburg and the six Zonta Clubs in Hamburg invite you to the film evening:
KOMPONISTINNEN (D, 2018) followed by a discussion with the filmmakers Kyra Steckeweh and Tim van Beveren (hybrid).

5 Euro of the ticket price will be donated to the Zonta project “End Child Marriage”.
When Leipzig-based pianist Kyra Steckeweh realized that her repertoire consisted only of music by men, she began to search for pieces by female composers. Her research in archives and editions quickly uncovered a multitude of fantastic piano works that are almost never played to this day.

The film “Women Composers” sheds light on the historical and personal circumstances under which the four women created their works in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Berlin filmmaker Tim van Beveren accompanies Kyra Steckeweh on her search for traces to France, Italy, Poland and Germany, to the places where Mel Bonis, Lili Boulanger, Fanny Hensel and Emilie Mayer lived and worked.

She meets experts who deal with the subject scientifically and to whom she also poses questions about the current situation. How is the musical legacy of the women composers treated today? Why is their music so rarely performed?

Attention: The language of the film is german. Unfortunately there a re no subtitles available.
