Screening with Q&A
Memoria revolves around sound: Not only is the mysterious “bang” that the protagonist hears and tries to solve central to the story, but so are the ambient sounds throughout the entire movie. Together, this variety of sounds form a clear focus. As such, we are especially happy to welcome Sound Supervisor Javier Umpiérrez and Sound Designer Akritchalerm Kalayanamitr for a Q&A after the screening.
About the film:
From the extraordinary mind of Palme D’or winning director Apichatpong Weerasethakul, and starring Academy Award winner Tilda Swinton, comes a bewildering drama about a Scottish woman, who, after hearing a loud ‘bang’ at daybreak, begins experiencing a mysterious sensory syndrome while traversing the jungles of Colombia.
Critics’ voices:
“Tunes a viewer’s perceptions to a hidden realm of being” THE NEW YORKER
“Designed and deserving to be seen big and loud, Memoria is a hypnotic, unquantifiable, occasionally inpenetrable sonic odyssey from a unique cinematic voice.” EMPIRE
“Enchanting and wonderfully confusing” SCREEN
