For more than 20 years, Hamburg-born Mona Mur has been successful as an audio artist in the game music industry. With her electronic-orchestral sound, which she produces in her Katana Studio in Berlin, the Hamburg-born artist not only provides for games such as “Kane & Lynch2: Dog Days” (EIDOS/SQUARE ENIX), “Velvet Assassin” (SoftPeak/UbiSoft Japan) or “Ballance” (ATARI USA/Japan) for unique, eerie and haunting atmospheres – but also as a composer for film music. Several of her compositions can be heard, for example, in the multi-award-winning drama “Against the Wall” (2004) by director Fatih Akin.
During her three-hour lecture “THE ART OF NON MUSIC IN GAMES” at the MediaSoundHamburg Conference, participants will delve into the complex depths of game music. Looking at the game “Kane & Lynch2: Dog Days”, they will explore how Mona Mur unconventionally creates an atmospheric and abstract soundscape for video games from ambient layers of field recordings as well as various unusual sources – which subconsciously captivates players.
