Ernst Reijseger is a world-renowned cellist who has written the music for numerous films by Werner Herzog, among others.
Ernst Reijseger was born in Naarden, the Netherlands in 1954 and began playing the cello at the age of seven. At the Amsterdam Conservatory, his teacher Anner Bijlsma encouraged him to go his own way. This led to a lifelong collaboration.
Reijseger’s compositions include works for the baroque orchestra Forma Antiqua (Volcano Symphony), the Dutch Wind Ensemble and Ensemble Modern, as well as film music for directors Werner Herzog (The White Diamond, Cave of Forgotten Dreams) and Alex and Andrew Smith (Walking Out).
Ernst Reijseger released over 200 albums, including film soundtracks. Over the years Reijseger gave much acclaimed solo performances. For example, his solo albums “Colla Parte” (1997), “Tell Me Everything” (2008) and “Crystal Palace” (2014) were also highly praised by the international press.
His ability to interact with different art forms makes him a sought-after creative partner of poets (Ramsey Nasr), dancers (Bollwerk), actors (Oscar Isaac, Teo Joling), painters (Jerry Zeniuk, Simon Kramer, Robert Zandvliet), sculptors* (Gertie Bierenbroodspot), photographers (Joost Guntenaar, Krijn van Noordwijk) and filmmakers (Werner Herzog, Alex and Andrew Smith). Reijseger’s music is part of two art installations: Stephan Winter’s “Of Silence” (Rathausgalerie Kunsthalle in Munich) and Werner Herzog’s “Hearsay of the Soul” (J.Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, Wallraf-Richartz-Museum in Cologne, Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City).
