Panos Kolias: Your music in film, TV & other media
Wednesday & Thursday, June 15 & 16, 2022, 6 to 9 p.m.
Your music in film TV & other media – how it can get there & support your career as a composer or band/artist.
A great many composers and musicians want to write film music for feature films or be successful as a life act/artist. However, we all know that this is a big and lengthy goal. On the way to this goal, the licensing market can be a support both in financial and promotional terms.
This workshop uses concrete (audio) examples and explanations to show which earning and promotional opportunities the licensing market can offer and at the same time bring you closer to your goal of becoming a “film music composer” or “artist/performer”.
Participants will bring their own music, and together we will discuss in detail what, where, how, and why works for the licensing market, and what specific criteria this market places on music.
Participants will receive a hand-out before the workshop, which explains the important legal and industry terms in an understandable way.
Panos Kolias, composer & producer & musician. Credits include international TV shows, award winning short films, trailers from Lions Gate, remixes, online commercials, etc. (www.panoskolias.com).
The goal of this workshop is to get answers to questions like:
– Where does the music actually come from that we all hear every day in movies, TV series and shows, commercials, phone on hold, online videos, etc.?
– How can the licensing market help me build a career as a film music composer?
– As an artist or composer, how can I make the best use of credits in films/TV series for my career, e.g. on stage or to introduce myself to directors?
– How can I earn a sustainable income when I’m not playing concerts or composing?
– How can I as an artist earn money a second time with my existing songs in addition to CD sales/downloads and concerts?
The workshop consists mainly of 3 parts:
1. how should the music be to be interesting for the licensing market? What works, what doesn’t, and why?
2. the music is ready & licensable – how can it now get into films or uses?
3) What is the use of licensing in film, TV, media in financial terms as well as for the promotion of my career as an artist or composer?
