MediasoundHamburg invites you to the opening of the 9th International Summer Academy for Film Music, Gamemusic and Sound Design at the African Night. Among others, Sahad & the Nataal Patchwork from Senegal, Eric Wainaina from Kenya and Topher Jaxx from Zanzibar/Tanzania will perform.

Frontman Sahad Sarr and his musicians build a bridge between different cultures and mix many musical styles: from Senegalese Mbalax to Malian desert blues, Afrobeat, Cuban music to rock and jazz. Eric Wainaina is an award-winning Kenyan singer and songwriter. His music is an interesting blend of Kenyan Benga rhythms, East African guitars and modern pop music. Since 2001 he has released eight albums. One of his most famous songs is Kenya Only, with which he became a star overnight. After the terrorist attack on the US embassy in Nairobi in 1998 with more than 200 dead, Kenya Only became an unofficial funeral song that was constantly played on radio and tv-stations. The song became very important during the riots at the beginning of 2008. Topher Jaxx is a young talent from Zanzibar/Tanzania, who is taking part in this year’s MediaSoundHamburg on a scholarship and is making his first public appearance in Hamburg.
